An East End favorite, nicknamed “the Cottage” in the twentieth century, the Roensch House is prefaced with a porch of articulated wood detail and offset by an octagonal corner tower, which is unusual for a one-story house in Galveston. The penchant for rhythmically distinguishing centers from ends by emphasizing the rising center is pursued in both the porch screen and the eaves zone of the tower.
