This house represents a double-dwelling type built to the same plan and building materials as the Henri Castro House (
CJ1) but on a larger scale and without a front porch. Although this house form is usually associated with Castroville, it was also commonly built in San Antonio as depicted by Herman Lungkwitz in a drawing of 1854 of the Commerce Street bridge and in an unidentified street scene in San Antonio, both illustrated in Charles Ramsdell's A Historical and Pictorial Guide: San Antonio (1985). One remaining example in San Antonio of this double-house type is the John Ball House (
SA66).
