High-style Second Empire houses are uncommon in Providence, and especially on College Hill. This is the first in the city, among the most commanding, and one of the few remaining domestic commissions anywhere by Bryant, who is most widely known for his Boston City Hall in the same style. Here the imperious elevation is all for show, however, as the $35,000 price tag for the house suggests and the original plain interiors proved. The house is now altered for apartments.
