Across Stimson Avenue is one more baronial gesture. Charles Baker was a superintendent for the famed Gorham silver works. His house shows a Flemish gable in brick stepping its way through a fissure in Queen Anne shingling. The result is delightfully brazen—long before anyone had imagined the postmodernist ironies possible from such disruptive stylistic composition.
