On Shannock Road off Route 2 lies the Charlestown portion of Shannock, which contains a number of recently restored double mill workers' houses and a few residences of more imposing size with Greek Revival detailing. Except for the engineering of the horse-shoe-shaped, ashlar block dam and adjacent headgate, waste gate and raceway on the upper falls of the Pawcatuck, much of Shannock's significant architecture lies on the Richmond side of the river.
