The grandest of the houses on the Charlestown side of Carolina, this two-and-one-half- story Italianate villa with a front entry porch was clearly meant for someone of higher professional rank than neighboring occupants, perhaps a manager or supervisor and his family. Its height and size are accentuated by its broad, bracketed eaves and the rise of its lot overlooking the river, so that it looms in a stately manner over smaller buildings nearby.
