Isaac G. Perry designed the bank's previous home on this site in 1872 with an eccentric cast-iron facade contributed by Willis G. Hale, but by 1914 it was considered unfashionable. McCormick and French designed its suave marble-clad successor for the oldest and most patrician of Wilkes-Barre's banking houses. It is only three stories high; clearly real wealth could eschew additional floors of rental office space.
