A devastating fire in 1940 burned the W. Main Street portion of the earlier courthouse. It was replaced with this brick building with a pedimented portico supported by six Ionic columns and a cupola reminiscent of Independence Hall's in Philadelphia. Stone quoins define all the corners and link the new portion to wings dating from 1914 and 1938 that survived the fire. The wings, each of eight bays, feature windows of varied forms, including round, segmental, and rectangular arched. Inside, the one-story rotunda at the intersection of the hallways has Ionic detailing in marble, which is repeated in wood in the courtroom. Thomas K. Hendryx (1906–1970), a 1923 graduate of Cornell University, is responsible for two modern buildings in his hometown of Bradford, the Kubiak building (
MK5) and the Bradford Regional Medical Center's allaluminum exterior wing (
MK11).
