Built as a summer residence for Austin Pearce, founder of the Pittsburgh, New Castle and Lake Erie Railroad, the brick, two-story Italianate house has been sensitively remodeled as a restaurant. While the lack of brackets and elaborate turnings were unusual for the period, the elongated windows topped by round arches and the building's asymmetrical organization are typically Italianate. Across Mercer Street is the former Bank of Harmony (c. 1860; 239 Mercer Street), another Pearce-run business. The brick building has a handsome wooden fanlight over the central doorway and round-arched windows similar to those on the Harmony Inn framed by elongated pilaster strips.
