Allen Hazen Water Tower

1930. Southwest corner of 48th St. and Hickman Rd.

Starting from the base and working upward, one finds that everything is correct and refined about the design. A circle of stone Tuscan columns surrounds an inner drum. The columns support a circular entablature and cornice; but at this point something peculiar happens, for above the cornice is a very large-scaled circular metal tank to hold water, and off of this sprouts an antenna. Technology and traditionalism are united.
