Once a town of some 2,000 and the ore shipping center of the district, Goldfield has shrunk to thirty or forty homes on a mostly bare grid of dirt streets. The city hall and fire station (1899), a two-story, raw frame structure at Victor Avenue and 9th Street (NR), has been installed on a new foundation and its bell tower reinforced and roofed. The first floor housed the fire cart and horses; city offices were upstairs. The flat-roofed building has ornate wooden quoins.
