1991, Tom Morris. 100 Civic Center Dr., south end of E Ave.

A daring Denver architect designed this contemporary, functional building of masonry, steel, and glass. Its walls are of gray, split-faced block accented by charcoal-colored stripes. A two-story glass front bespeaks open government, while the symmetrical one-story cinderblock wings and a clock tower on the gable roof are traditional elements. A tornado-inspired Post-modern piece nearby is the Limon Volunteer Fire Department (1990, Dennis Humphries of Pouw and Associates), 130 C Avenue (northeast corner of 1st Street), of plain-faced, load-bearing concrete block interspersed with colored tiles.
