1963. 11 miles west of Gunnison on U.S. 50

The largest lake in Colorado and the surrounding Curecanti National Recreation Area originated with the Blue Mesa Dam (1963), a 342-foot-high earthen structure. Below it are the Morrow Point Dam (1971), the first large double-curvature, thin-arch concrete dam in the United States, and Crystal Dam, forming a trio of recreational reservoirs on the Gunnison River.
