Claims owned by the Stanley Mines extended from the top of the ridge north of Clear Creek to the top of the ridge south of the creek and over into Spring Gulch. Cornish miners organized in 1864 what became the Stanley Little Mattie Group to work nearby rich lodes. The large, metal-clad frame mill and its extensive tailings bespeak the production volume. The adjacent two-story frame house presumably was for the manager. Efforts to revive the Stanley mill in recent decades have led to its stabilization and improvement.
