R. N. Bruce, who received $1,325 for his efforts, built this 113-foot-long bridge using modified Warren trusses, an English system dating from 1838. More often used for iron bridges, the Warren truss, with repeated diagonals and no vertical members, was seldom used in American wooden bridges. The bridge is clad with boardand-batten siding and covered with a standingseam metal roof. Extensive repairs were undertaken in 1904, and in 1990 a new bridge for vehicular traffic was built alongside, reserving Pocahontas County's sole remaining covered bridge for foot and bicycle traffic.
