This residential neighborhood grew up in the 1940s to accommodate the influx of workers at the newly reactivated South Charleston Naval Ordnance Plant. Among those involved in its development was Huntington's Minter Homes Corporation, which developed an eighteenacre parcel, and the Kanawha Land Company, responsible for 750 lots. Small brick and frame ranch houses and split-levels predominate, but there are occasional examples of more exotic architecture. A log cabin bungalow and a stuccoed, pink Spanish hacienda can be found on the upper reaches of Montrose Avenue.
