From west of the courthouse, scenic Mountain Road leads to White Oak Mountain. Succeeding generations built their houses along this lovely setting, thereby showing the progression of nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century styles, as well as the Cosby family's building careers. This two-story side-hall brick building has a small pedimented and fanlit Federal entrance. The tall, multipaned Federal windows (with an uneasy asymmetrical placement of the second-floor left window) show the mark of the newly popular Greek Revival in the wooden lintels, and the wooden cornice takes the larger, simpler Greek form. It seems likely that the lodge is by Cosby. Unlike the private residences on Mountain Road, the lodge and the two churches (HX5, HX7) are set close to the road.
