The scale of this block is typical of much of the post–Civil War architecture seen on Broad Street and elsewhere in the district. The brick and stone contractors John Mann and James Netherwood built these turreted row houses over a fifteen-year period. The fine brick and stone houses with their iron fences set an impressive rhythm along the street. The iron cresting and the original front and rear porches remain intact. The Historic Richmond Foundation saved the block, developed a common garden area in the rear of the properties, and founded an association to maintain the gardens and the facades in a unified manner.
