A nice group of Arts and Crafts houses can be found in this block. The architect W. Duncan Lee (1913–1915) designed the three houses at 1516, 1530, and 1534. The architecture firm of Asbury and Whitehurst (1914) designed those at 1514 and 1518. The Asbury and Whitehurst buildings are Georgian Revival structures with Arts and Crafts detailing. The Lee buildings are more directly influenced by English Arts and Crafts architecture. The properties are accentuated by staggered facades, created by shallower lots as they progress toward Harrison Street. It is surprising that such a unified group of facades was created by two different firms.
