The four-story red brick Liberty Hotel was developed by A. J. Wright in proximity to the Santa Fe passenger station (the station, most of the railroad’s maintenance shops, and Harvey House were demolished in the 1990s). The sixty-nine room (thirteen with private baths) hotel had Cleburne’s first elevator and room telephones connecting to other rooms. Cleburne businessman Howard Dudley, who rehabilitated the Wright Building across the street, also rehabilitated the hotel in 2009, both projects bringing new economic activity to downtown.
