The unusual design of this brown brick Carnegie library combines Italianate and Prairie Style features, with deep eaves over extended rafter/brackets, round-arched openings, a raised basement, and stringcourses above and below the windows. Design attribution is uncertain. While local sources credit C. C. McKim, architect Wayne Patterson of Temple is shown in period documents as receiving the construction bids. McKim and Patterson formed a partnership in 1914 with offices in Waco. Patterson was the architect of the nearly identical Franklin Carnegie Library and made preliminary designs for Palestine.
