Red brick used for pilasters, corbeled crenellations, and the broad central arch contrast with the buffwalls, giving a Romanesque flavor and monumental aspect to the one-story facade. James I. Bonner and William B. Robinson organized their banking enterprise c. 1880 on the advice of the Moody family of Galveston, responding to the needs of new business being attracted by the railroad.
