The present church is the second to stand on this site. The first, built in 1855, was rebuilt in 1877 due to the failure of its masonry walls. Constructed of coursed limestone, the church's side walls are reinforced by a row of buttresses. The stone tower rises in three stages, and is capped by a six-sided wooden spire. When the church was extended by two bays in 1937, the exterior was covered in stucco, obscuring the character of the original stonework. The gable-sloped ceiling of flat boards painted light blue is embellished by quatrefoil designs by an unknown artist.
