This two-story, front-gabled, side-passage-plan Southern town house has a gallery wrapping around its narrow east front and long south side. Like other components of the house, the gallery seems to have been altered considerably over time, complicating a visual determination of what is original and what are later modifications. According to local historians, this house has been home to such notables as Lieutenant Governor A. C. Horton; the Reverend Caleb S. Ives, the first rector of Christ Church; Frank L. Rugeley; and Robert J. Sisk, the last two members of prominent Matagorda County families that moved on to Bay City after 1894.
