A long, low, Frank Lloyd Wright–inspired design was executed by Dow for Temple Israel, a product of the merger of several Bay City Jewish congregations. The school and office wing is a sweep of brick wall set under wide eaves; the sanctuary is at the rear. The sanctuary and social hall, both rhomboidal in plan, are separated by movable partitions. The prayer hall features a large ark and platform set into one corner of the room—the corner of which is fashioned of a concrete grid into which colored glass blocks are set. The blues and purples of the windows complement the soft greens of the interior.
