This is a commodious Queen Anne dwelling whose glory resides in its sumptuously detailed porches. The ground-floor veranda swings around the house and provides horseshoe entrances for both street fronts. On the second floor a wide corner porch was worked out with its own variation on the horseshoe arch theme, and on the third floor, pedimented miniaturized balconies are suggested. Classical lunettes and decorations of classical garlands indicate that the Colonial Revival was beginning to enter into fashion in Elkader.
