The primitiveness of the eighteenth-century Colonial style was here infused into a commanding design that was not reticent about reflecting the affluence of the upper middle class as America entered the “new” century. The house sits in the center of a wide lawn, some distance from the street. It states its case through a stately two-story temple front; but at the same time, through its extensive front veranda, it bespeaks a life of ease. The house is appropriately painted (at this writing) yellow for the clapboard and white for the trim.
