After turning a bend in the suburban road, one comes across this modernist house of the late 1960s. A two-story wooden box hovers over its hillside site, supported by linear walls of concrete block. On a lower level is a porch/deck; below this is the carport. The street front displays dramatic projecting balconies, held in on each side by thin, concrete-block walls. Another Crites and McConnell house in Iowa City is the Kitzman House (1965), located at 12 Longview Knolls. This house has been placed on concrete piers, is sheathed in grooved plywood, and has a two-story screened deck.
