Lake Catherine State Park

Lake Catherine State Park was established in 1935, adding to the system of state parks begun in 1923 with Petit Jean State Park (see CN6). The lake was formed in 1923 by the construction of Remmel Dam across the Ouachita River. Between 1935 and 1942 teams from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built rustic wooden cabins for overnight accommodation, hiking trails, and bridges of native stone. This forested park in the Ouachita Mountains offers picturesque views and walks, a waterfall, and fishing and boating opportunities on the lake.
