Celia Gilbert House

-A A +A
1907. 264 C St.

Built for dressmaker Celia Gilbert, the two-story, wood-framed house has two two-story bay windows, including one on the gable front. Sunburst ornament on the side of the entry enlivens the clapboard-covered exterior. There is a two-story, shed-roofed addition on one side, probably added after 1916, when the United Methodist Church bought the building to serve as a hospital. In 1922, when the church built a larger hospital, this building was converted to a nurses' residence. It served in that capacity until the late 1940s, when a larger hospital was constructed several blocks away. It is now a private home.
