Big Delta State Historical Park

-A A +A
1907–1926

Big Delta State Historical Park, located on the Valdez-Fairbanks Trail on the south bank of the Tanana River, includes several buildings that reflect the transportation and communications functions that developed around this pivotal location.

The transportation hub flourished until the Second World War, when the Alaska Highway was built, connecting with the Richardson Highway (the old Valdez-Fairbanks Trail) south of this site. During the subsequent upgrading of the Richardson Highway, it was rerouted west of the roadhouse, and a bridge replaced the ferry across the Tanana River.

The site is now a state park, interpreting several phases of Alaska's transportation and communications history.
