The county jail, sited on the same level terrace as the courthouse, is one of the state's most architecturally imposing prisons. Three stories tall, clad in quarry-faced ashlar, it has an emphatic belt course between the first two floors, visually creating an English basement with two stories above. A handsome arched pediment graces the entrance door in the central, threebay pavilion.
