Elizabeth Baptist Church

-A A +A
1867, 1939, 1947. 804 Mulberry St. (southwest side of Mulberry St., across from Wirt County High School)

This simple frame church, now covered with artificial siding, replaces an 1836 structure located nearer the courthouse. The Gothicarched doorway centering the facade and the belfry are original features. Inside, a 1954 mural by H. G. Jorgenson decorates the baptistery. One of the best of the regional Appalachian baptistery paintings, it depicts a Biblical landscape with the River Jordan flowing between rocky hills down to the pool.
