Old Stone House

Thought to be Ritchie County's oldest building, this stone survivor has been used as home, inn, post office, and—on occasion—church. The original two-story, five-bay, single-pile structure is built of sandstone laid in random rubble, covered with a gable roof. Dormers are a later modification. The frame addition to the rear dates from the early twentieth century, and interiors of the older portion were retrimmed at the same time. The long front porch is also a twentieth-century appendage. The Ritchie County Historical Society has owned the building since 1977.
