Cheat Mountain Club exudes a pleasant sense of the era of private hunting lodges. Members of the Cheat Mountain Sportsmen's Association built the plain wooden lodge on the banks of Shavers Fork River. The exterior is covered with frame siding, and comfortable porches overlook the river. A large stone fireplace presides over the great room, which is sheathed with spruce logs. Notable nimrods Thomas A. Edison, Henry Ford, and Harvey Firestone enjoyed a visit in 1918. Seventy years later, in 1988, the once private facility was opened to the public.
