Sweet Springs Cottages

-A A +A
1850s, attrib. Henry Exall. Southwest of Sweet Springs Hotel

Four of the five two-story brick cottage duplexes built by Oliver Beirne remain. The one closest to the 1830s hotel was taken down in the 1970s when the fourth portico was added to that building. The cottages are treated similarly, but each has subtle differences in detail. Applied stuccoed pilasters divide the facades of several, and all have, or had, front porches. All are almost square, with hipped roofs, and have a very urban character, somewhat out of place in their rural setting.
