John Collins House

The Collins House is relatively unusual in Wisconsin: a Greek Revival building with a full temple front. Four colossal Doric columns rise from square stone bases to support a large pediment. The building’s timber-framed, mortise-and-tenoned core was built around 1853, and its one-story balloon-frame wing was added c. 1870. The building closely resembles the Cooley House (see RA13), a temple-front residence attributed to architect Lucas Bradley of Racine.
