This fifty-acre outdoor museum features more than twenty buildings relocated from northeastern Wisconsin. It includes one of the state’s oldest buildings, the Roi-Porlier-Tank Cottage, built in 1776 by French Canadians using clay-chinked, slab-style construction. Wisconsin was part of the Illinois Territory when the clapboard sheathed, log Fort Howard Hospital was built in 1816. The fort, with its broad facade, front porch, and low gabled roof, was moved in two pieces and reconstructed onsite in 1975. Wisconsin had rejoined the Michigan Territory when the clapboard-sided Greek Revival Baird Law Office was built c. 1826; it has an 1861 addition.
