Designed by Bruce of Knoxville, Tennessee, one of the most prominent architects working in the southeastern states, this red brick church is a sophisticated Gothic Revival design. Its front entrance tower is attached to flanking cylindrical stair towers and is elaborated with angled corner buttresses that rise in steps to diminutive pediments. The tower has a louvered belfry with a bracketed cornice, and a slender broach spire, added in 1897, with a narrow bracketed band midway up. Inside, the sanctuary has an open-truss ceiling, a rear balcony, and a pulpit with Gothic-styled rails. The stylish church indicates the prominence of Wytheville's large population of German origin.
