Necessities for the workers came from the company stores in this block of plain brick buildings. The stores were usually leased to private businesses that could deduct charges from workers' paychecks. Thus the company escaped the aggravations of running the businesses but benefitted from the stabilizing effect that debt had on workers' restlessness. The Front also included a bowling alley, a pool room, and a motion picture theater. These buildings consist of a simple two-story brick block with rectangular windows set under segmental arches below a molded brick cornice and a modest parapet.
