This two-story Gothic Revival church, erected during the early months of the Civil War, is a stuccoed brick structure with a central entrance tower capped with a crenellated belfry and spire (now with a smaller replacement spire), brownstone hood molds and quoins around the front pointed-arch windows, and pier buttresses along the sides. A Union shell hit the church during a service but did not explode, and its richly decorated interior with elaborate Gothic Revival plasterwork and a rib-vaulted apse, as well as the congregation, were left unscathed.
