This large frame and stucco house was built for novelist Mary Johnston, supposedly from royalties from her most successful novel, To Have and To Hold (1900). She lived here until her death in 1936. Prominently sited on a hill, the sprawling house is typical of those built for wealthy residents of Warm Springs Valley during the early twentieth century. The two-and-a-half-story house is composed of a hipped-roof central block with side wings, and eaves supported by narrow tripled brackets. The central entrance, flanked by side-lights and fluted pilasters, is sheltered by a wide portico carried on Ionic columns. Three Hills now serves as a bed-and-breakfast.
