Although not the largest of the wind farms in Texas, the Desert Sky Wind Farm is the most dramatic. Increasing numbers of enormous wind turbines are sprouting along the edges of the flat-topped Indian Mesa along the Pecos River, and the huge size of turbines (328 feet, tower and blades) are well suited to the vastness of the landscape. Texas produces the most wind power of any state, generating over 18,000 megawatts from over 40 sites (2016 estimates).
