The three-story buff brick courthouse is one of the few classical designs in Brownfield. The slightly projecting central block consists of three bays of tall arched windows framed by paired Ionic columns. A two-story-high courtroom occupies this central block, and because of the large windows it is possible to see through the building to windows on the opposite side. A thin stringcourse separates the rusticated brick first story from the upper floors, and a similar thin cornice marks the roof level, a portion of which above the central block has a balustraded treatment. Otherwise, the building is without ornament. A large addition (1951) at the S. 5th Street end of the courthouse throws the formerly symmetrical building off center.
