This Queen Anne house built by real estate promoter and merchant John W. Earl is one of the finest remaining examples of a builder’s catalog house in Texarkana. The plans were based on Design No. 71B in Barber’s 1893 publication New Model Dwellings and How Best to Build Them. The house was reputedly the last of three identical houses in Texarkana built according to Barber’s published design. It features his trademark elongated corner turret topped by a bell-shaped roof. The projecting bays, wraparound porch, and dramatic roof-scape are elaborations on a basic foursquare floor plan.
