To the north of the city hall plaza, the form of the library appears to be pushed back by the force of the City Hall (DS11), with its floor levels stepping away from the street. John Erik Jonsson, cofounder of Texas Instruments, as Dallas mayor (1964–1971) was instrumental in funding the new city hall, central library, and convention center, and a leader in the development of the Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport, transforming the mood of the city from the shame of the John F. Kennedy assassination to the restoration of its brassy entrepreneurism.
