Hamilton Building

The U-shaped Hamilton Building is distinctive in Wichita Falls for the extent and character of its Art Deco ornament. Atop a pair of eleven-story buff brick towers, Dallas architects Bryan and Sharp stacked a tall penthouse defined by piers that rise between pairs of windows below. Each pier is capped with the bust of a stern Indian chief in full war bonnet. Arched windows between the piers are framed in red, blue, and white glazed tiles, and the tiles continue under the deep, bracketed cornice. The sweeping views from the penthouse were originally the purview of members of developer W. B. Hamilton’s exclusive Wichita Club; its wood-beamed-ceiling ballroom, lounge, and library with ornate fireplaces survive.
