After organizing in 1882, the congregation built its first church in 1883 at 9th and Indiana streets. This, the congregation’s fourth church, was built in two stages. Lemmon’s gridded geometry of the low-pitched gabled nave facade and the tall, freestanding, square tower bear a likeness to Eliel Saarinen’s First Christian Church of 1942 in Columbus, Indiana.
