Named for Texas governor and Baylor president Pat Morris Neff, Neff Hall is the defining building for the Baylor campus, presenting a refined Georgian mode of red brick, deep white cornices, pedimented porch, and staged polygonal tower. The three-to four-story building is massed like an eighteenth-century Virginia country house, with a cubic central mass and lateral pavilions connected by hyphens. The balance of size and proportion displayed at Neff Hall is not matched by later campus buildings, where the red brick standard has stifled progressive or interpretive design.
