This L-shaped district has one of the best collections of turn-of-the-twentieth-century houses in the area surrounding San Antonio. Architects who worked in the neighborhood include Victoria-based Jules Leffland and the San Antonio firm of Ayres and Ayres. The range of styles is fairly broad, including some late Greek Revival works as well as American Colonial Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival designs.

Some of the more important works are the American Colonial Revival Lee Joseph House (1901) and the Classical Revival Frank Sames House (1902), both by Jules Leffland at 302 and 406 E. Reuss Street, respectively; the American Colonial Revival Alexander Hamilton Jr. House (1912) at 912 N. Esplanade Street by Atlee B. Ayres; and the Spanish Colonial Revival Thornton G. Hamilton House (1938) at 913 N. Terrell Street by Ayres and Ayres.
